Frustrated to say the least... because I knew I could do it... I hired a trainer, and worked on researching what to do to reach my goal once and for all. So I read. Here is what I learned:
- Eat fruit. Don’t eat fruit, it has too much sugar.
- Eat Breakfast. Don’t eat breakfast. Practice intermittent fasting instead.
- Eat lots of good fats. Eat... bacon!!! All fats are bad.
- Eat carbs. Don’t eat carbs.
- Eat raw. Cook your food.
My trainer sucked.
To say I was confused was an understatement! I tried my best to eat a healthy, balanced diet. I came home from work and spent ages chopping veggies and creating home cooked meals that tasted amazing (or so my husband tells me!) but it got us nowhere. The weight poured on both of us and we grew more and frustrated with each passing day.
Enter Jeff Willet and Stuart MacDonald. I Want to Look Like That Guy captured my husband, and without discussion he made a plan to start Jeff’s program. He announced that I was welcome to join him if I wanted, but he was doing it with or without me. Something had to change. After Sean showed me the video, and I understood Jeff’s principles, I was in. We met with Jeff, set a start date, and stocked our kitchen with supplements, chicken and veggies. We printed off our nutrition plans and put each of them into their own sheet protectors and put them on the fridge. We were set. I was ready to go... right up until November 14. There I sat with my last ever glass of wine in hand, staring at Stuart’s nutrition plan as he neared his competition, and I cried. I didn’t think I could do it. I had to give up my wine. I had to live on next to no calories and try to survive. I wasn’t going to make it, I was sure of it. But, day one came. We woke up at 5:30am, had our pre-workout drink, (yum, yum!) and headed to the gym. We did our best and we ate everything we were supposed to that day. I wasn’t hungry once!
When I got home from work and finished dinner, I couldn’t wait to go to bed... I didn’t even think about wine. Weird! Off to sleep I went. 5:30 came fast, and we repeated the previous day. The next day came and we did the same. It was so much easier than I thought it would be! One workout at a time, one meal at a time, one day, one week, one month at a time. It wasn’t long before the results started to show! That became addicting, and motivation to execute Jeff’s plan perfectly each day. Of course, family events came about, and social things happened. I wasn’t perfect, and that was ok. I was doing really, really well!
Through proper nutrition, nutrition timing, cardio and weight training, I was able to create significant change in my body. Jeff provided the tools, the coaching, the support and the motivation through our online skype sessions that helped push me through those tough times. I provided the drive, determination and commitment to see this thing through. My goal was to go to vegas feeling comfortable in a bikini. Here is my body composition change in just 6 months...
November 15, 2015
45% body fat
May 8, 2016
29% body fat
Through that process, I managed to net a 6lb gain of lean mass. This program WORKS. The changes in my body are not the only positive outcomes I experienced from following Jeff’s plan. My husband and I are busy. We don’t have kids at home, but we have big, time consuming careers. We are both in school, and I do volunteer work one day a week.
The amount of energy I used to expend just trying to come up with a healthy meal plan for dinner, let alone preparing it, seemed immense. I was struggling to balance my life. Jeff simply simplified everything. I was so happy to have someone map out not only what to eat, but when, and what to do at the gym. He took all of the guess work out of all the information I had been trying to process about working out and nutrition. Since I started Jeff’s plan, I have had more time and more energy to focus on my husband, school, family, and other important things in my life. I’m a better, stronger, healthier person, thanks to Jeff.
